Most of what we handle falls into four groups. Flatwork covers driveways, sidewalks, patios, slabs and walkways. Decorative work covers stamped, coloured, exposed-aggregate and stained finishes. Structural work covers foundations, footings, steps and retaining walls. Repair and removal covers resurfacing, sealing, cutting, grading and tear-out of failed slabs.
What a Colorado pour has to survive
Concrete along the Front Range is not the same job it is elsewhere. Denver-area soils are heavy in expansive clay that swells when it takes on water and shrinks when it dries, which is what drives slabs to lift at one corner and crack across the middle. The freeze-thaw cycle does the rest: water gets into the surface, freezes overnight, expands, and lifts the top layer away a fraction at a time.
That is why sub-base preparation decides how long a driveway lasts more than the mix does. A properly compacted base, a slab thickness matched to what will park on it, control joints cut at the right spacing, and air-entrained mix rated for freeze-thaw are the four things that separate a slab that lasts decades from one that fails in five winters. Ask any contractor quoting your job about all four.
What drives the price
Square footage is the starting point and rarely the whole story. Access matters — a truck that can back up to the pour costs less than one that has to pump over a house. Tear-out of an existing slab adds disposal. Thickness and reinforcement change with the load: a patio and a driveway that will hold a truck are not the same pour. Decorative finishes add labour and cure time. Grade and drainage work, where the site needs it, is priced separately.
Anyone quoting a concrete job sight unseen is guessing. A real number comes after someone has looked at the access, the existing surface and the grade.
